Why must designers pay close attention to how color is utilized within a composition?
Because the wrong use of color can break a design. If too intense of colors are used without any rest, the design will come off too strong and unappealing. Also if bad color combinations are used, the design will look unattractive, as well as give off the wrong feeling

Why is the color wheel an important tool for graphic designers?
It gives you all the basic colors you might need in a way that can be easily used to pick the right hue.

 

Find an example of neutral colors utilized within a design (hint: google poster design). Near the sample, discuss why you feel the designer included neutral colors within the composition.
This is the logo for google chrome.  The neuteral colors, between the blue yellow red and green are used to seperate the more intense colors, and give the eyes a rest.

 

Briefly describe how we "see" the color of an object?

Most light waves are absorbed into objects, however some are reflected. We are able to see those reflected lights.

 This poster, for a musician called Feist, is created solely by the use of shapes. There are no singular lines anywhere. It uses abstract shapes, like shapes with curves in some places and straight lines in others. This use of organic shapes gives off a smoother, less constructed feeling.

The use of lines in this graphic has a very dramatic effect. The white diagonal lines emanating from the lions mouth give a sense of motion. This is because they are diagonal. Also the lines on the lions face add a certain texture. Lines are a staple in graphic design because of this, they are used as part of other elements

This masterpiece of a graphic design of President Barack Obama utilizes value, along with other elements of design. The designer’s most noticeable contrast is between red and blue. It brings out certain aspects of Obamas face. Contrast has the effect of making certain aspects of a design pop out.


This image in particular implements the element of texture. The design on the left creates the texture of water and waves. This gives the image as a whole a more realistic view, while because they chose water the design recieves a soft feel. The picture on the right uss a smoky texture in the background and the bagfaceman has a really grimey texture on his clothes. These together give off a dirty urban feel.
